Pop Art Comic Strip: Dina
Pop Art Comic Strip: Dina by ~Narugasawa on deviantART
This is a pop art comic kind of feel, well as you can see I used my friend (Dina)'s picture as the reference. I was inspired by Cheeser's blog where she was also inspired by the DKNY commercial based on the apple perfume they were promoting. So me being very free and tired and bored from studying decided to do this for leisure time. I had a hard time trying to get it right but all in all, I did it!
Here is the original picture of Dina before it was popped!

Tools?
Photoshop CS 2 and Paint Shop Pro (a little help)
How?
It's easy to do this pop art. Just follow the instructions and try. I'm serious. I'll prolly wanna do tutorials but I'm lazy so I'll give a brief one.
1) Select a picture of your own kind
2) Duplicate the layer and change the blending mode of the duplicate image to color dodge
3) Press ctrl I to invert the duplicate image which appears white not to worry.
4) Apply Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur to the duplicate layer. Make sure you see the colour liningd of the image itself. Choose 9 at least or your own choice.
5) To remove the colors create a new Threshold Adjustment layer from the button in the layers palette. Adjust the slider until you see all the required details in the scene. Also create a new layer and paint with white color to remove the unwanted spots in the image. You are thinking why follow so many steps and just applying a Threshold on the main layer will give us same result but actually this method gives you more control on the lines that you don’t get if applied the threshold directly.
6) Create a new layer and change the blending mode to multiply. Start painting with different colors to different parts of the body on different layers.
7) To make a colored layer into halftone pattern. Choose Image > Adjustments > Threshold and drag the slider to the left until the color disappears.
8) Select Filter > Sketch > Halftone Pattern and move the contrast slider to the right and adjust the size of the checks and click Ok. Remember one thing colors selected as a foreground and background in the tools palette will come in the halftone and final output, nothing to do with the colors you painted in multiply layer.
9) Repeat the above steps for other layers too, except for the eyes and the hairs. That’s it. You can add talk bubbles or something else according to the script requirement or giving any different look.

Reviews from the deviant?
It's a pretty hard work. I took like 2 hours for it because I made a TERRIBLE mistake which I have to start all over from scratch. But the outcome wasn't as bad. I wished I had stroked the picture to make it stand out more but I guess it's already okay. I will do better. Just wait for my other little comic strips! I am doing more for my friends if I have the time.
That is all for today :D
